In a country filled with overpaid athletes kneeling during the national anthem and celebrities mocking our nation’s leader at every turn, one man is demonstrating what it means to show respect.

And he happens to have been a victim in the tragic Las Vegas shooting this past weekend.

Thomas Gunderson, who was shot in the leg during the attack, refused to lie down when First Lady Melania Trump and the President came to visit him at his hospital bedside.

Video posted to Gunderson’s Facebook page shows him rising from his bed as Melania enters the room.

“Don’t get up,” she said. “Are you ok?”

Upon entering behind her, the President remarked, “Hey this guy looks tough to me,” and shook his hand.

The video, shown below, added a caption that reads in part, “Shot in the leg or not, I will stand to show my President the respect he deserves!”

The video as of this posting has been viewed over 11 million times.

“I will never lie down when the President of this great country comes to shake my hand!” Gunderson added. “There may be plenty of issues in this country but I will always respect my country, my president and my flag.”

Perhaps inspired by Gunderson’s will and determination to respect his country, President Trump posted a video of his meeting in Las Vegas set to the song “God Bless America.”

The President and First Lady traveled to Las Vegas on Wednesday, meeting with victims and first responders who dealt with the horrific situation.

Much respect, Mr. Gunderson.
