James Mattis, nominee for Secretary of Defense, was grilled by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand over his stance on gays in the military during his confirmation hearing this past week.
Gillibrand is under the mistaken notion that anything other than having the best military fighting force in the world would be the top priority for Mattis.
He isn’t nicknamed “Mad Dog” for his willingness to get trapped by frivolous political questions however, and Mattis quickly took the Democrat’s questions and hammered them out of the park.
When Gillibrand first confronted him over his stance on an LGBT military, Mattis responded “Frankly, senator, I’ve never cared much about two consenting adults and who they go to bed with.”
Via the Daily Caller:
Secretary of Defense nominee James Mattis really doesn’t care who people sleep with, especially in the military.
He dismissed Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand’s question about LGBT members of the military during his Senate confirmation hearing Thursday, saying, “I’ve never cared.”
“Do you believe that allowing LGBT Americans to serve in the military or women in combat is undermining our lethality?” Gillibrand asked.
“Frankly, senator, I’ve never cared much about two consenting adults and who they go to bed with,” he replied.

“My concern is on the readiness of the force to fight and to make certain it’s at the top of its game,” Mattis explained.
As it should be for every member of Congress – not trying to score cheap political points with a particular demographic.
That’s how America’s military is going to win under a President Trump – not playing PC politics, but rather by destroying the enemy.
Gillibrand kept trying to get Mattis’ stance on gays in the military on record, but to no avail. She was eventually cut off by Senator John McCain as her time had expired.
