Top DHS Official Says Using Terror Lists To Confiscate Guns Is Not A Good Idea

A top-ranking official at the Department of Homeland Security testified that he doesn’t believe it would be proper to use terror lists as a basis for new gun-control legislation.

New York Democrats will be apoplectic.

You can watch video of his testimony below …

Via GOP:

REP. BLAKE FARENTHOLD: “Alright, I guess my concern with this is there has been a lot of talk recently about using these watch lists for purposes other than they were intended. For instance, in determining whether or not Americans are able to exercise their rights under the second amendment. Do you think it is appropriate that these lists be used outside of what they were designed for?”

ASSISTANT HOMELAND SECURITY SECRETARY FOR INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS ALAN BERSIN: “I have not heard that and I don’t believe that it would be — and I believe it would be apples and oranges.”

REP. FARENTHOLD: “All right. Thank you very much.”

Recently, New York Democrats have pushed to curb Second Amendment rights by limiting the use of guns for people not only on the no-fly list, but the error-laden terror watch list.

Jeff Klein (D) even introduced legislation to confiscate guns from individuals on the FBI’s terror watch list or the federal no-fly list.

This, despite the fact that there are serious flaws in those databases that even devout liberal media outlets have pointed out.

The LA Times recently reported that people on those lists aren’t actually terrorists and some who have been identified as necessary to watch are perfectly law-abiding citizens.

“Serious flaws in the list have been identified,” the Times wrote, including “thousands of names that have been added in error, as well as the names of family members of suspected terrorists.”

They reported that the late Senator Ted Kennedy was added to the list when a terror suspect used the alias ‘T. Kennedy.’

In addition, recent news demonstrated that 72 employees in the Department of Homeland Security itself were on the terror watch list.

The ACLU claims that the list has gone upwards of 1.1 million people.

Rather than defend the Obama/Clinton administration’s failed national security policies, liberals would rather engage in a dog and pony show regarding ‘gun crimes.’

Unfortunately for Democrats, their attempts at infringing upon the Second Amendment doesn’t even get a thumb’s-up with Obama’s own Department of Homeland Security, let alone the Constitution.
