Prior to the 2012 election, President Obama made the claim that al-Qaeda was “on the run” and “decimated.” Now it would appear, America is on the run from al-Qaeda.
Via Fox News:
The State Department on Tuesday ordered all non-essential U.S. government personnel to leave the U.S. Embassy in Yemen and urged all Americans currently in that country to depart following the threat by Al Qaeda that has triggered temporary shutdowns of 19 American diplomatic posts across the Middle East and Africa.
Pentagon spokesman George Little said that non-essential embassy staff were transported out of the capital, Saana, by Air Force jets early Tuesday morning.
“The U.S. Department of Defense continues to have personnel on the ground in Yemen to support the U.S. State Department and monitor the security situation,” Little said.
The department said in a travel warning that it had ordered the staff departures “due to the continued potential for terrorist attacks” and added that all Americans in Yemen should leave immediately because of an “extremely high” security threat level.
Weasel Zippers adds:
U.S. Embassy and all Consular services will be closed in Yemen.
Bill Kristol wrote this in the Daily Caller:
“Four years ago President Obama gave a much heralded speech as outreach to the Muslim world,” Kristol said. “And now, four years later we are closing embassies throughout the Muslim world. A year ago, the president said al-Qaida is on the run. And now we seem to be on the run.”
“I’m not criticizing the decision to close the embassies. That’s probably the right thing to do for the sake of trying to save American lives and others, but it’s a terrible thing,” he added. “That you know, just a year ago boasting al-Qaida is on the run and Osama bin Laden is dead.”
The President’s success against al-Qaeda seems to exist only in his own mind. Killing Osama bin Laden and blaming the world’s perils on YouTube videos is certainly no foreign policy. Now Americans are witnessing a resurgence of their biggest terror threat.
This is what amateur hour at the White House looks like…
