Schumer: Your TV Could be Spying on You


Senator Chuck Schumer has warned that television with internet-equipped capabilities could be spying on you.  And they could be spying on you right now.

Via the Associated Press:

The Democrat on Sunday called for security standards for televisions with built-in web cameras.

The senator says hackers can easily access microphones and video images captured by the new television technology.

The technology is supposed to allow for video chats.

Here’s the real kicker – The industry wants you to solve this privacy issue on your own. Here’s how:

Manufacturers have suggested that consumers tape over the camera and unplug the TV when it’s not in use.

Schumer says that the burden shouldn’t be placed on the consumer, however.
