Rep. Tells White House It’s Time to ‘Come Clean’ About Prostitution Scandal

Congressman Jason Chaffetz appeared on Fox & Friends this morning to discuss a Washington Post report that demonstrates White House staffers knew of an incident in which a presidential advance-team member had a prostitute stay overnight in his hotel room.

Nearly two-dozen Secret Service agents and members of the military took the fall for the incident – either being punished or fired – for their role in the scandal. But the White House denied knowledge of the incident and escaped scrutiny.

That however, has changed after new documents surfaced.

Via the PJ Tatler:

The Post reported that “senior White House aides were given information at the time” of the 2012 scandal “suggesting that a prostitute was an overnight guest in the hotel room of a presidential advance-team member — yet that information was never thoroughly investigated or publicly acknowledged.”

At the time, White House press secretary Jay Carney said there was “no credible or specific allegations of misconduct by any member of the White House advance team or White House staff.”

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) told Fox this morning that “there were very credible and very specific allegations that a White House staffer was intimately involved with a prostitute. There are evidently hotel records. There are investigators that went down and looked at this.”

Chaffetz went on Fox & Friends this morning and said it was time for the White House to “come clean.”

Chaffetz also said the new reports seem to indicate there was “perhaps some misdirection and some cover-up.”

A lead investigator into the prostitution scandal told Senate members that he was pressured to “withhold evidence” because it was an election year.

The entire interview with Chaffetz can be seen here.
