Please Pray For These Two Americans Killed in Nice Terror Attack

Most Americans who have watched scenes of this week’s act of terrorism are able to take some small comfort from the fact that these unspeakable events unfolded 6,000 miles away, in Nice, France. But for one American family and the community they live in, the mass murder struck a little closer to home.

That family is the Copelands, who live in Lakeway, Texas, just outside of Austin. They were in Europe for a family vacation, when tragedy struck. Two of the family members — Sean Copeland, 51, and his 11-year-old son Brodie — were among the fatalities.

The Copelands released a statement today. The statement, published by the Austin American Statesman, reads:

We are heartbroken and in shock over the loss of Brodie Copeland, an amazing son and brother who lit up our lives, and Sean Copeland, a wonderful husband and father.

A further connection between father and son was a love of baseball. Sean Copeland was Brodie’s little league coach.

The Hill Country Baseball league posted a tribute on its Facebook page, mourning the loss:
