Things just got really complicated for the Clinton campaign in regards to their ongoing war with the FBI over Hillary’s email scandal.
You know it has to be pretty bad when the White House is willing to throw you under the bus.
While Clinton has been sending people out to attack FBI director James Comey – who just 2 weeks ago was a Democrat hero for refusing to recommend charges against Hillary over her email scandal – for daring to investigate criminality. Howard Dean claimed he was in bed with Vladimir Putin, while Harry Reid and others claimed that Comey broke the law, not Hillary.
But Obama has refused to join in!
White House press secretary Josh Earnest refuted team Clinton’s claims, saying that the FBI Director is “a man of integrity” and that “the president doesn’t believe he’s secretly strategizing to benefit one candidate or one political party.”
Take a look …
The entire segment of Earnest’s unmitigated praise (emphasis mine):
“I think, Josh, what I have observed in the past is that Director Comey is a man integrity. He is a man of principle. He’s a man who is well regarded by senior officials in both parties. He is somebody who served in a senior position in the Bush Administration. And he’s somebody who got strong bipartisan support when his nomination to be director of the FBI was considered by the United States Senate. So, all of those things are true. They speak to his good character. And the president’s assessment of his integrity and his character has not changed. For example, the president doesn’t believe Director Comey is intentionally trying to influence the outcome of an election. The president doesn’t believe he’s secretly strategizing to benefit one candidate or one political party.”
There is no question that they have provided a full-throated defense of the FBI director in this statement, and by extension Obama has tossed Mrs. Clinton squarely in front of the bus.
The question remains – why?
There has been speculation that with WikiLeaks revealing President Obama knew and lied about his knowledge of Clinton’s emails, the FBI had to drop their pursuit of Hillary. The thinking being that if they indicted one, they had to move on the other as well.
Perhaps the president understands this now, and is trying to distance himself from the criminal investigation?
