NRA Releases Incredible Video Featuring Sutherland Springs Hero

Stephen Willeford.

No matter the substance of the debate, no matter the person you’re debating, when it comes to gun control and safety in our schools, malls, or churches, and the role the NRA plays in making everybody safer, the final argument should always be Stephen Willeford.

Willeford, a former NRA instructor, is the consummate example of the ‘good guy with a gun’ principle.

He was a neighbor at the Sutherland Springs church massacre and the man who ran out of his house barefoot upon hearing what had happened and stopped the gunman from killing any more people.

Had it not been for Willeford, the body count at the Sutherland Springs church could have been a lot higher. At the very least, he saved the life of one woman, Farida Brown.

In an incredibly powerful ad for the NRA, Willeford tells the story of what happened that day.

“My daughter came into the bedroom and she said, ‘Dad, there’s a man in black tactical gear shooting up the Baptist church,” he relayed. “Every one of those shots, to me, represented one of my neighbors, one of my friends, and I ran as fast as I could.”

Willeford goes on to describe how the crazed gunman took aim at him personally, but he got the better of him. Why? Because he had equal footing with the same weapon.

The hero, however, had one advantage – training from the National Rifle Association and the heart of a good man.

“He had an AR-15, but so did I,” Willeford added. “It’s not the gun, it’s the heart; it’s a matter of the heart. I’m not the bravest man in the world or anything, but I was here, I was here and I could do something. And I had to do something.”

“I was here and I could do something,” Willeford bravely recounts. “And I had to do something.”

He has previously expressed regret for not being able to get to the church sooner, but that should never diminish the number of lives he did save – a good guy with a gun, Stephen Willeford.
