NRA Affiliate Doubled Membership Since SAFE Act Passage

Citing the SAFE Act as a significant reason, the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association (NYSRPA) announced that they are now the largest NRA affiliate in the state.  Membership since passage of Cuomo’s gun control legislation has doubled to over 41,000.

The state’s leading Second Amendment organization is now the largest state-affiliate of the National Rifle Association in the country. The New York State Rifle and Pistol Association announced Monday membership growth over the past year has pushed the group to the top spot of state-affiliates of the NRA, surpassing the Texas State Rifle Association and California Rifle and Pistol Association.

President of NYSRPA Tom King said the organization has nearly doubled in size to more than 41,000 members over the past year and attributes the growth to the passage of the controversial Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act, which was passed just over a year ago.

“The gun owners of New York are extremely worried about what is going to happen to their Second Amendment rights,” King said. “They’ve already seen what’s going on with the SAFE Act, and they haven’t seen all the ramifications of that yet because they’re just not known.”

King went on to say that the organization’s members are concerned that their Second Amendment rights are being infringed upon.

Meanwhile, advocates for gun control didn’t see the link between the SAFE Act and an increase in gun ownership rather, they cited “hysteria” within the gun industry.
