Nope, you have not accidentally switched the channel to The Onion. The Hill reports with a straight face that a new comic book featuring the lowest-information individual ever to stalk the halls of Congress “as a ‘butt-kicking’ political superhero” is in the works.
But wait, there’s more. The full title of the comic — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and The Freshman Force — appears to herald the presence of Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib in some of AOC’s adventures.
The organization behind the product, Devil’s Due Comics, is responsible for another series based on a far-left political “hero,” “Barack the Barbarian.”
The first issue of the AOC series, due out May 15, is to be titled “New Party: Who Dis?” a reference to Ocasio-Cortez’s juvenile and out-of-touch reaction in January to veteran Sen. Joe Lieberman’s expressed hope that she is not the future of the Democratic Party.
Devil’s Due Comics publisher, Josh Blaylock, is quoted as having said in a statement that the goal behind the new series is to “create something that celebrates the fresh new energy and diversity of the stagnated legislative body, and help some good causes at the same time.” He adds:
It’s no secret that AOC has been made the unofficial leader of the new school and has sparked new life into Washington. And that’s reflected in the enthusiasm we received from so many contributing artists.
While we all don’t agree on everything, we share a common excitement for the breath of fresh air the new Congress brings. I hope it’s as much of a cathartic release for readers as it has been for us creators.
While a comic book starring Ocasio-Cortez seems redundant, it bespeaks a frightening trend within the hard Left and low-information voters to take her and her ideas seriously. An Axios/Survey Monkey poll released in January found that nearly 75% of Democrats would consider voting for her if she were old enough to run.
That’s nothing to laugh at.
