Following the Capitol “insurrection,” Pelosi ordered metal detectors installed at all authorized entrances to the “citadel of democracy” and announced that heavy fines — $5,000 the first time offense, $10,000 for the second — would be levied against House members who bypassed the checks.
The rules have been strictly enforced. On Friday Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, was slapped with a $5,000 fine for evading the metal detector when he returned to the House floor after using the bathroom.
And now, House Republicans are clamoring for the speaker to be fined.
Davis, who called Pelosi’s actions part of a “typical good for thee, not for me type of attitude,” said she entered the chamber through what is known as the Speaker’s lobby, which is unprotected by a magnometer.
The episode is reminiscent of her visit to a hair salon in San Francisco last September, which occurred at a time when visits to such establishments were off-limits.
When footage was posted of a maskless Pelosi traipsing through the spa, she grumbled that she had been “set up.”
Apart from the bad press, Pelosi suffered no ill effects from her selfish act.
This time, however, Republicans are insisting that the speaker pay the piper.
Three Congressional members, one of them Davis, transmitted a letter to the Acting Sergeant of Arms of the House demanding that Pelosi fork over the $5,000 her breach warrants.
Play by the rules Madam Speaker.
Multiple members saw you enter the Chamber without going through YOUR metal detectors.
Pay the $5,000 fine. https://t.co/4P9RaYU9KT

$5,000 is a lot of money. If Pelosi agrees to pay the penalty, she might have to do without ice cream for an entire day.
