Man Charged With Hate Crime For Assaulting Army Captain Inside Walmart

According to WNYT-13 in Albany, 47-year-old Yiqiang Wu assaulted a uniformed Army captain inside a local Walmart, after “derogatory things about America and the captain’s service to his country”.

The victim sustained multiple bruise on his face, and a laceration over his eye.

“We thought it was important to get out because obviously the uniform aspect. This is a person who serves our country. He is a well respected office in the United States Army. And not only does it happen to police officers, it happens to public service officers all across the country every day,” said Albany Police Public Information Officer Steve Smith.

For his actions, Wu was charged with assault as a hate crime and released on bail.
