Fishing For Votes: Pelosi Indicates Support For Lowering Voting Age to 16

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, speaking at a weekly press conference, has indicated she would support lowering the voting age in elections to just 16.

An amendment seeking to do just that, introduced by Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) during House debate over the ‘For the People’ Act, was overwhelmingly defeated last week, 305-126. That debate included an affirmation that the resistance party would also like to open voting up to illegal immigrants.

“Young people are at the forefront of some of our most existential crises,” Pressley said at the time. “The time has come. Our young people deserve to have the opportunity to exercise their right to vote.”

Texas Rep. Michael Burgess was the sole Republican to vote in favor of the measure.

Pelosi was asked to give her thoughts on lowering the age limit from 18 to 16 by the Daily Caller.

“I myself, personally, not speaking for my caucus, I myself have always been for lowering the voting age to 16,” she admitted. “I think it’s really important to capture kids when they’re in high school when they’re interested in all of this and learning about government to be able to vote.”

Pelosi just advocated for lowering the voting age to 16 years old to “capture kids when they’re in high school.”

Why Pelosi Supports This

‘Capture kids when they’re in high school’ is a really fancy way of saying ‘we’d like as many undereducated people on the voting rolls as possible because they’ll definitely side with our cause.’

Let’s face it – the Democrat party is highly in favor of garnering votes from vulnerable blocks of people. They want to hand out free things to earn votes from people who otherwise wouldn’t care. They want open borders so illegal immigrants can be rendered legal and vote for them.

They’re not concerned with the rights of high schoolers either. Democrats want children who have been manipulated by a hyper-liberal education system that toys with their emotions and sculpts their – as Rush Limbaugh would say – ‘skulls full of mush.’

Sure, they’re more gullible and receptive to the “free stuff” plank of the dem party platform.

Also, ‘capturing kids’ is the perfect phrasing for trying to indoctrinate them into the cult that is liberalism.

Why It’s a Bad Idea

Offering up an important part of the political process to people just “learning about government” is akin to giving a permit holder the keys to your Rolls Royce. Maybe let them finish learning about it, before letting them vote.

“At most, 16-year-olds are juniors in high school,” the Political Insider’s own Ann, writes. “They’re only just figuring out where they want to go to college, let alone their political beliefs.”

Lawmakers have been trying to raise the age on nearly everything else, such as drinking and smoking, citing people of a younger age having difficulty handling tough decisions. But the right to vote – something so powerful – should just be offered up to children? We think not.

A majority of Americans agree.

A poll from 2018 found that 81 percent of Americans were opposed to lowering the voting age to 16, while just 16 percent supported it.
