Senate Democrats are trying to preempt President Trump’s emergency declaration to build a wall at the southern border, introducing legislation that would block him from using the military or disaster funding.

The President has reportedly been working on a proclamation to declare a national emergency at the southern border, freeing up to $7 billion in potential funds to build that wall.

He even hinted at making the announcement during his State of the Union address.

This bill, the Restrictions Against Illegitimate Declarations for Emergency Re-appropriations Act (RAIDER), would according to Senator Martin Heinrich (D-NM), “prevent funds designated for critical military construction and disaster response.”

Point being, the Democrats view the construction of a border wall as not an important enough task for our military.

Senator Tom Udall, also from New Mexico, believes “we must prevent the president from going around Congress to raid critical funds … for a politically-motivated, unjustified national emergency declaration that isn’t based in reality.”

They Don’t Care About the Danger

The only thing not grounded in reality is a Democrat party unwilling to see the danger and damage an open border is doing to harm Americans.

If not for the jobs that illegals take away from law-abiding citizens and legal immigrants, open borders have certainly been an actual physical danger to people such as Kate Steinle or Jamiel Shaw Jr. or Mollie Tibbetts.

Democrats don’t view their lives as constituting an emergency, sadly. How do we know this? Just listen to their own words.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently dismissed those who have lost loved ones to illegal immigrants, including Officer Ronil Singh, saying their losses don’t amount to a ‘crisis.’

“As painful and as horrible one death is,” she said, “… the fact is we have to have public policy that secures our border and what the president is proposing will not eliminate those possibilities.”

It Is a National Emergency

“Our position is very simply this: There is a humanitarian and national security crisis at the southern border,” said Vice President Mike Pence as Trump prepared for his primetime speech on the need for border security.

Backing up that claim is last week’s announcement that U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials had conducted the largest drug bust in their history, seizing 254 pounds of the deadly opioid fentanyl, an amount so staggering it has the potential to kill nearly 100 million Americans.

Do Democrats not consider that to be an emergency?

“As President of the United States, my highest loyalty, my greatest compassion, and my constant concern is for America’s children, America’s struggling workers, and America’s forgotten communities,” the President said at last year’s SOTU.

A national emergency would help those Americans. And the resistance party wants to stop it.
