Cue the sad trombone.

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) has made an announcement that his Democrat colleagues aren’t going to like.

“You can’t impeach somebody for doing what they said they were going to do,” Murphy said during an interview with WFSB in Hartford.

He quantified that by saying he does view President Trump’s speeches as “bizarre,” but that he won the election on those very words and promises.

And you can’t impeach someone because they’re doing exactly what they promised to the American people – a first perhaps, in politics.

During an interview with WFSB, Murphy responded to claims from fellow Democratic lawmakers and pundits that Trump is mentally unfit for office.

Murphy contended that while he finds Trump’s behavior to be “bizarre,” Trump can’t be removed just because people don’t like that behavior.

“He did win the electoral college despite this bizarre behavior as a candidate, so you can’t impeach somebody for doing what they said they were going to do as a candidate,” Murphy argued. “Whether we like it or not, he is fulfilling all of the very reckless promises…he made during the campaign.”

“I don’t see President Trump acting any differently as president than he did during the campaign,” Murphy observed.

Murphy has consistently tried to walk impeachment-loving Democrats off the ledge of unhinged fantasy, explaining that the President can’t be impeached without having actually committed an impeachable offense.

In June, the Senator confessed that attempts to paint a Russia/Trump collusion case were nothing more than a ‘distraction’ by his party.

“I often get on a commuter bus and ride it for just an hour to talk to folks that, frankly, don’t normally call or write my office,” he explained, “and I’ll just say, they are never talking about issues like Russia.”

While his colleagues continue to push the narrative that Trump is mentally unfit to hold the office of the Presidency, at least one Democrat senator has figured out that disagreements politically do not amount to impeachable acts.

It’s a rare moment of honesty from that side.
