We may not know the details currently, but one thing is for certain – recent revelations behind the secretive policies of the Cuomo and de Blasio administrations show two individuals with something to hide.
First up – Governor Cuomo’s office, currently embroiled in a federal investigation, has taken to destroying e-mails after just 90 days. This, despite having the capability and resources to keep the data for decades.

Is it digital incompetence or real world corruption?
That’s the fun game that critics of New York governor Andrew Cuomo are playing this month after he implemented a policy of automatically deleting employee emails after 90 days in an effort to use state resources more efficiently. It’s conspicuous timing, given that federal prosecutors are investigating Cuomo’s administration for possible corruption.
The Governor, who once promised his administration would be the state’s “most transparent and accountable in history,” has been accused of hypocrisy from both sides of the aisle. He’s instead adopted “a policy designed to reduce transparency,” said John Kaehny, the executive director of Reinvent Albany, a government transparency group.
On top of that, Cuomo’s math just doesn’t add up.
New York already pays for 50 gigabytes of email storage for every employee in Microsoft’s cloud, according to Microsoft. That’s at least 40 years of emails, Kaehny explained, or about 162 times the current automatic deletion time.
Michael Morisy, founder of the FOIA focused company Muckrock, told the Daily Dot that the tactic is “a disaster waiting to happen” especially in light of New York’s penchant for “backroom wheeling and dealing.”
Then there’s New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, whose data destruction is illegal for fairly obvious reasons – because it pertains to people illegally in our country.
Via the Daily Caller:
The de Blasio administration made assurances that any records submitted by applicants who want to receive New York City’s municipal ID will be destroyed on Dec. 31, 2016 – 20 days before a new president takes office.
New York Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis told The Daily Caller that the future destruction of records on applicants for the city’s new municipal identification card is “irresponsible” and “sets a very dangerous precedent.”
De Blasio’s municipal ID’s provide New Yorkers, namely illegal immigrants, access to city services, and may have opened up an avenue for people residing in New York and the country illegally to vote in local elections.
Danny Dromm (D), one of the co-sponsors of the bill to grant these ID’s, in an on air debate said it was possible that the ID’s could be used for voting.
The purpose of destroying the applications of those who wish to attain the ID’s is blatant in it’s reasoning. One City Council member said the provision has been included “in case a Tea Party Republican comes into office.”

Does it get any more corrupt than this?
Cuomo and de Blasio, both alleged champions of transparency, are behaving like men who clearly have something to hide.
