Cruz (R-TX), speaking on CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” said the election will hinge on how the American people perceive the economy and handling of the pandemic.
“It’s volatile, it’s highly volatile,” he explained. “If people are going back to work, if they’re optimistic, if they’re positive about the future, we could see a fantastic election.”
Those ‘fantastic’ results could include “the president getting reelected with a big margin” and “Republicans winning both houses of Congress.”
Cruz said, “I think that’s a real possibility.”Could not load the poll.

Cruz: Trump Could Win Or It Could Be a Bloodbath
It’s safe to say Senator Cruz doesn’t think there is a middle ground in this election – predicting either Democrats will win big or Republicans will.
While saying a GOP sweep is still a possibility, Cruz also said economic and pandemic numbers could swing the election in a completely opposite direction.
“I also think if on Election Day people are angry and they’ve given up hope and they’re depressed, which is what [Speaker Nancy] Pelosi and [Senate Minority Leader Charles] Schumer want them to be, I think it could be a terrible election,” he added.
“I think we could lose the White House and both houses of Congress, that it could be a bloodbath of Watergate proportions.”

It’s The Economy
Both topics Cruz mentions – COVID and the economy – loomed large at this week’s vice presidential debate.
Should President Trump prove his case that he is more adept at leading the country out of the pandemic and back to a roaring economy he helped create prior to the pandemic, the election will be his to win.
Trump “turned this economy around by cutting taxes, rolling back regulation, unleashing American energy, fighting for free and fair trade,” Vice President Mike Pence argued.
“All of that is on the line if Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are in the White House.”
Biden/Harris will raise your taxes. Fact Check: True.
VP Biden said so last week when he said he would repeal the Trump tax cuts. Their $3T tax hike is the wrong medicine for our economy anytime, but especially harmful during this pandemic.

A new poll from Pew Research suggests the economy remains the one area where President Trump holds an edge over Biden.
Additionally, a new Gallup survey shows that registered voters overwhelmingly believe they are better off under Trump than they were four years ago under the Obama-Biden administration.
