Army General: ISIS Motivated By “Grievances”

One has to wonder if the families of those American journalists beheaded by ISIS would agree that the terror group is simply airing “grievances.” Yet that is what we are told by Army General Martin Dempsey, an Obama pick for Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

During a Senate hearing, Dempsey spoke of ISIS as if they were a legitimate, organized group of politicians, rather than a horde of blood-thirsty terrorists. Dempsey described the “grievances that have caused” ISIS to slaughter Christians, Iraqis, and Americans in the first place.

Via PJ Media:

Gen. Dempsey testified: “The nature of the threat is such that, as I mentioned, it will only be defeated when moderate Arab and Muslim populations in the region reject it. And therefore, the way forward seems to me to run clearly through a coalition of Arab and Muslim partners, and not through the ownership of the United States on this issue. And so the strategy does that.”

“It seeks to build a coalition, encourage an inclusive government to address the grievances that have caused this in the first place, it applies U.S. military power where we have unique capability to do so, and over time it allows those populations to reject ISIL.”

What “grievances” have causes ISIS’ rise “in the first place?” Dempsey did not elaborate, and he was not asked to explain.

Watch his testimony below…

There is little doubt that referring to the group’s “grievances” legitimizes their cause on the world stage, something the U.S. should be avoiding.

Further, the word “grievances” allows the administration to avoid other glaringly obvious motivators for the terror group – such as radical Islam.

Dempsey previously contributed to negotiating and legitimizing radical terrorists when he pressured pastor Terry Jones to drop support for an anti-Islam video, saying it would cause violence by offending Muslims. This was the same video Hillary Clinton and President Obama used as an excuse for the Benghazi attacks.

Dempsey also offered support for the President’s prisoner swap between Bowe Bergdahl and five high-ranking Taliban fighters, a negotiation intended to dampen the terror groups “grievances.”

You can’t negotiate with people willing to behead innocent Americans.  And you certainly can’t say they’re motivated by “grievances.”
