Airplane Banner Flies Over NYC: ‘De Blasio Get Off The Pot’

Mayor Bill de Blasio’s fractured relationship with the New York Police Department, a result of his racially tinged comments against his own police officers, has led some very high-profile media commentators to call for his resignation.

Now, a group of retired NYPD officers have concurred, flying a giant banner above the city calling for the Mayor to resign.

The group also took a shot at de Blasio for his pot-smoking past, evident in this tragic yearbook photo:

The banner in it’s entirety read – “De Blasio Get Off The Pot. Resign. We ♥ NYPD.”

In the midst of turmoil stemming from the Ferguson and Staten Island police cases, de Blasio indicated that the police were motivated by “centuries of racism.” He would also go on to state that he had to tell his son Dante, who is biracial, that he should never reach for his cellphone when interacting with police because he ‘might be misinterpreted if it was a young man of color’.

De Blasio and his close personal friend Al Sharpton, even sided with protesters who were chanting, “What do we want? Dead cops!”

The racially-tinged rhetoric eventually empowered one man to assassinate two NYPD police officers in December.
