Texas Governor Greg Abbott officially declared his state a ‘sanctuary city’-free state, signing a law which bans policies of harboring, aiding, and abetting criminal illegal immigrants.

It seems surreal to have to create a law which demands that law enforcement and city officials follow already established immigration laws, but liberal lunacy has dictated it as necessary.

“Texas has now banned sanctuary cities in the Lone Star State,” Abbott declared in a Facebook statement.

Via Fox News:

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed a bill Sunday prohibiting the state’s cities and counties from enacting so-called “sanctuary” laws that prevent local law enforcement officers from inquiring about the immigration status of anyone they detain.

Abbott took the unusual step of signing the bill on Facebook with no advanced public notice. He said Texas residents expect lawmakers to “keep us safe” and said similar laws have already been tested in federal court, where opponents have already been hinting the bill will be immediately challenged.

The Texas governor has vowed all along to sign this bill, noting it would further defund such cities as well as impose fines and jail time for sheriffs and police chiefs who refuse to follow the law.

Can you imagine if a simple concept like upholding the law and jailing accomplices to crime were enacted throughout the country, as President Trump has been advocating?

Such a sanctuary city ban would have benefited Jamiel Shaw, Jr., gunned down and killed by an illegal immigrant who had been released from a county jail despite an ICE order to hold him following several gun charges.

And it could have helped Kate Steinle, a 32-year-old woman shot and killed by Francisco Sanchez, an illegal immigrant who had been deported five times but found a safe haven in the sanctuary city of San Francisco.

“The reason why so many people come to America,” Abbott explained, “is because we are a nation of laws and Texas is doing its part to keep it that way.”

It should be noted that any municipality that does not uphold and enforce immigration laws is doing the opposite of Texas, and letting the world know that their city and/or state does not believe America is a nation of laws.
