Results of a statewide poll commissioned by the Chiaroscuro Foundation to survey the attitudes of New Yorkers about abortion and Governor Cuomo’s proposed abortion expansions under his Reproductive Health Act were released today on the steps of New York City Hall.
The findings conclude that an overwhelming majority of New Yorkers support sensible restrictions on abortions, with eighty percent (80%) opposing unlimited abortion through the ninth month of pregnancy and seventy-five percent (75%) opposing changes in current law so that someone other than a doctor can perform an abortion.
The entire survey, including crosstabs, is available here. Toplines are available here.
“Governor Cuomo’s proposed changes in New York’s abortion laws are clearly out of the political mainstream,” said Chiaroscuro Foundation president Greg Pfundstein. “While it is difficult to imagine having even less abortion regulation in New York, Gov. Cuomo’s special interest allies in the abortion lobby have come up with a few ideas, and they are all extremely unpopular. Some of them, like allowing non-physicians to perform abortions, seem bound to make New York less safe for women. In fact, most New Yorkers favor adding sensible restrictions common in other states. It is imperative for Governor Cuomo to listen to what pro-choice and pro-life New Yorkers actually think before he acts in haste on this radical legislative proposal.”
According to the survey:
New Yorkers favor of restrictions on abortion:
“This survey tells us that women want and deserve more choices, not more abortion,” said Meg McDonnell, a spokeswoman for the Chiaroscuro Foundation. “New York’s elected officials should take a close look at this data and work on making abortions rarer, not more commonplace and more dangerous. Those pushing for this legislation are far out of the mainstream and they need to be called on it.”
New York City has one of the highest abortion ratios in America. Forty percent of viable pregnancies end in abortion in the five boroughs today — almost double the national average — and nearly 60% of viable African-American pregnancies in the city are aborted every year.
The Chiaroscuro Foundation is a non-for-profit organization seeking to reduce the number of abortions in New York and to educate pregnant New Yorkers about alternatives to abortion.
Full top-lines and crosstabs-including response percentages for those who identify as “prochoice” and “pro-life”-can be found at NYC41percent.com. This survey of 600 likely general election voters in New York State was conducted on January 27th through January 31st, 2013. 420 interviews were conducted via telephone by professional interviewers. 180 interviews were conducted via internet to capture voters who identified themselves as cell-phone only users. Interview selection was random within predetermined election units. These units were structured to correlate with actual voter turnout in a statewide general election. The survey of 600 likely general election voters has an accuracy of ±4.0% at a 95% confidence interval.

Why is it that The Right is described as “anti-choice” when The Left is talking about abortion? But The Left is not regarded as anti-choice when they talk about gun control? When The Left talks about “saving just one life” by doing things like banning guns, why doesn’t that logic apply to late term, partial birth, or any abortion?
Have you ever seen an Intact Dialation and Extraction procedure? There is absolutely no denying that what the doctor is doing is killing a viable human life.
Let me be clear on this, I believe an abortion, in 99% of cases, is a disgusting and vile act. I believe that more times than not, abortion is simply a method of last resort at birth control. I believe that the same logic a woman uses to kill her child in her womb, could be extrapolated into killing a child, or an adult, at any age. I believe that if a person is capable of the reasoning required to destroy the potential of a human life at one stage of development, they possess the same process of reasoning required to destroy life at any stage. I believe this, because in my belief, there is no difference between the living potential of the fetus or that of the born child. But those are my beliefs.
Fortunately for the supporters of Roe v. Wade, I also believe that my beliefs should not dictate the choices of others.
That being said, I am in favor of a woman’s right to do what she thinks is right with her body. But why does the “pro-choice” Left change their logic completely when they turn their attention to gun control measures? The apparent argument is that a woman does not affect anyone but herself when she decides to have an abortion.
With that argument in mind, I’ll draw your attention to the more than 54 MILLION abortions in this country since Roe v. Wade. Outside of major world war, there has never been a more prolific assault on innocent human life, in mankind’s history. (Unless of course, you count the ultimate Leftist idea… communism… which ranks in at an estimated 100 million killed. Stalin killed more than 40 million personally.)
Let’s consider the possibility that only 50% of these aborted lives would have wanted to live, had the choice been given to them instead of their mother (a very, very generous number given for the sake of making a point). Let’s then assume merely 1% of the fathers of these unborn children would have opted to be fathers had they had the choice (again a very generous number). We come up with a number of around 28 million innocent lives affected by abortion (affected being an understatement of astronomical proportions).
28 million lives, and I think we can all agree, that’s a very generous number, given that I have never actually met a suicidal infant or toddler. I’ve rarely ever met a suicidal adult. 28 million people that would be alive today, had the choice been given to them.
54 million, incidentally, is almost as many as the total dead in World War 2, yet the same “anti-war” Leftist are the same people at the pro-choice rallies.
Given the Left’s logic, it would seem gun control as a vehicle to public safety, or as an avenue to protecting the rights of individuals, pales in importance to overturning Roe V. Wade. Using the Left’s logic, and obvious disregard for an individual’s constitutional rights, I’d say there’s a fair chance overturning Roe V. Wade is a very worthy endeavor, as well as a real possibility.
Clearly the Left is attempting to demonstrate how important protecting innocent lives are, and how much the public supports this. Perhaps we should start showing more people what a victim of an abortion looks like. Maybe if more people see that these beings are not merely “aborted fetuses”, but rather viable human lives with incredible potential, much the same way the media recently portrayed all the victims of Sandy Hook, perhaps then, more of mainstream America might see the abhorrent things we have been doing to innocent life since Roe. V. Wade.
Black Friday is always a mixture of chaos and greed to kick off the shopping season. But this is one of the strangest sales we’ve seen today.
You’ve seen video footage of people trampling each other for phones at Walmart, gouging each other’s eyes out for toys at Target, but will there really be a major clamoring for discount, bargain-basement prices at an abortion clinic?
One facility in Florida is certainly hoping so…
Via LifeNews:
A Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in souther Florida is offering a black Friday discount — including $10 off a visit to the abortion center today.
Planned Parenthood of South Florida and the Treasure Coast offered the special, saying, “Visit our West Palm Beach or Kendall Health Center for special after Thanksgiving savings on Friday, November 23rd.”
Pro-life blogger Jill Stanek noticed the Black Friday discount and responded, “Planned Parenthood brings new meaning to the term, “Black Friday,” doesn’t it?”
It certainly does. Here’s the advertisement…
Of course, the act of abortion is blanketed safely inside the phrase ‘choice’, but the message remains the same. I’m quite certain the irony that the girls in the video would never have a choice had they been aborted, is completely lost on the folks at Planned Parenthood.
Via LifeNews:
A new video making the rounds online with liberals has daughters, some of whom are clearly too young to engage in consensual sex, urging voters to support President Obama to protect legalized abortion.
“I can’t vote yet, but you can. Please vote for President Obama, otherwise your vote is a vote against me. Make the right choice so when I grow up, I can still have one,” the girls say.
The video was tweeted out by Planned Parenthood this afternoon, accompanied with this message:
Powerful video: Daughters ask their mothers to #vote for @BarackObama
It’s powerful alright – powerfully nauseating.

Pattie Mallette was told to abort her baby at the age of 17. Despite not having the answers for how she could raise a baby, and despite a difficult situation in which she struggled with drugs and alcohol, having endured a situation that included sexual abuse, Mallette was determined to make it through her pregnancy.
Mallette is Justin Bieber’s mother.
In an interview with Today’s Kathie Lee Gifford due to air this week, Mallette gives a surprisingly candid account of why she opposed suggestions to abort her baby, gave birth, and ultimately raised one of the most powerful celebrities in the world.
(h/t Life News)
Prior to becoming pregnant, Mallette suffered sexual abuse, a subject she discusses in her new book, “Nowhere But Up: The Story of Justin Bieber’s Mom.” Of that abuse, Mallette told Gifford, “I’ve learned it’s normal and natural for anybody who’s been through sexual abuse to carry that shame and that blame and feel like there’s something wrong with you. So I definitely carried that.”
The shame was so much Mallette attempted to kill herself. She told Gifford that the suicide attempt was “a culmination of, you know, built up over the years with the abuse and the pain and at the time I was messed up with all the drugs and alcohol. I was in a depression and the drugs and alcohol kind of spurred that on some more.”
By the age of 17, Mallette became pregnant with Justin, and at the time, she was encouraged to abort the baby. Of course, Mallette said that was an option she couldn’t consider. “I just knew I couldn’t. I just knew I couldn’t. I just know I had to keep him,” she told Gifford. “And, do the best. I — you know, I didn’t know how I was going to do it. But I just knew that I couldn’t — I couldn’t abort. I had to do my best. I had to see what I could do. And I was determined to do whatever it took.”
Mallette went on to say that the first time she heard her son cry, it was literally music to her ears. “I know this sounds crazy, but he sounded like he was singing. He did,” she said. “It was like this, like, ‘A hah, a hah.’ And I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, it is so precious and amazing. I just want to squeeze him.’ “
The full interview airs September 18-19 on the Today show.
