What the hell is going on in America today? Two very contrasting stories today show that patriotism is being punished, while law-breaking is being rewarded.
First, we have a group of high school students who were suspended for chanting ‘USA!’ and wearing American flag bandanas.
Four California high-school students were reportedly suspended for chanting “U.S.A! U.S.A!” and wearing American flag bandanas during a basketball game. While their punishment has since been rescinded, school administrators said “the incident is far from over.”
Oxnard Union School District superintendent Gabe Soumakian told Fox News Radio that “we need to pursue this further” and “work with teachers and students and the community about the concept of cultural proficiency.” Soumakian and Camarillo High School principal Glenn Lipman felt that the students’ actions might have had racist undertones since the schools have large Hispanic student populations.
“We wanted to make sure [their actions weren’t] racially motivated, and I told the kids I just want to be sensitive to the feelings of everybody,” Lipman said.
Here’s video of the offending display…
Meanwhile, as patriotism is punished, breaking federal immigration laws is not. Jose Antonio Vargas, an admitted illegal alien, went to Congress and scolded them for accurately referring to him as … well … illegal.
Jose Antonio Vargas, an illegal immigrant and former reporter, scolded a congressional panel on Wednesday, saying that he should not be called illegal, and saying it is an insult to his family who brought him here.
“When you inaccurately call me illegal, you not only dehumanize me, you’re offending them,” he said. “No human being is illegal.”
Mr. Vargas testified to the Senate Judiciary Committee alongside Chris Crane — a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent and president of the ICE agents’ union — who is unable to arrest him under the administration’s new non-deportation policies.
Human beings aren’t illegal, but their actions are Mr. Vargas. Which is why you are classified as an illegal alien – because you illegally entered the country.
Vargas refers to himself as an “undocumented immigrant”, a phrase that is resoundingly inaccurate. After all, Vargas is indeed documented through the media as being illegal. In fact, go ahead and print out this blog post. Once you have it on paper, you’ll have documented that Vargas is an illegal alien.
Of course, in the America of today, it’s actually pretty fashionable to break the laws of this country. Just ask all of the illegal immigrants that joined Democrats at the State of the Union speech.
It’s funny, had the high school students chanted ‘USA!’ at the State of the Union, they would have been escorted out in handcuffs – while the illegal aliens looked on and smiled.
