Leave it to a New York outlet to produce this tripe…
There’s been a lot of ugly stuff in the blogosphere as well as various social networking websites such as Twitter since Thursday’s shocking announcement that conservative publisher Andrew Breitbart died at the age of 43.
Possibly the most offensive came in a headline from New York Amsterdam News titled “Anti-Black Journalist Andrew Breitbart Dies Suddenly”:
Breibart [sic] made his reputation by attacking liberal organizations and public officials as well as people of color.
He was most famous for attacking former USDA employee Shirley Sherrod who was fired from her job by Obama administration officials after he posted a video that implied that she had denied helping white farmers who needed her help. Later it was revealed that Breibart [sic] had skillfully edited the video to leave out additional comments Sherrod made explaining how she ultimately helped the farmers.
The NewsBusters report states that, “for those unfamiliar with NYAN, it is a weekly newspaper whose target market is African-Americans in New York City.
But it doesn’t matter if your audience is black or white, or your staff is black or white, when you apparently can’t read things written in black and white.
There are so many falsehoods in this piece, it is ridiculous.
First, let’s start with the title. Andrew Breitbart was anything but ‘anti-black’. I’m sure Sonnie Johnson and Anita MonCrief would argue this vehemently.
Second, the column has a myriad of spelling errors, at one point referring to Andrew’s website as ‘beitbart.com’, and immediately after (the very next word) calling him ‘Breibart’. Later on, they refer to the ‘occupied wall street’ movement, and the ‘associated pres’. Spell check my friends.
Third, in describing the ACORN expose, the article states that “Breitbart in an attempt to entrap the organization dressed up as a pimp and got tax advice from their workers.” It was actually James O’Keefe who dressed up as a pimp. Excuse me for having difficulty envisioning Andrew in a feather boa and fedora.
Fourth, the article at one point refers to Breitbart as a ‘her’.
Fifth, Breitbart never edited the Sherrod video, skillfully or otherwise.
Such journalism leaves me speechless.
Update: NYAN corrected number 3 and 4 above but have left the headline as ‘Anti-Black’. I have contacted the newspaper for a correction but have yet to hear their reasoning for labeling him as such.
