Daniel O’Donnell, a Democrat state assemblyman representing Manhattan and brother of Rosie O’Donnell, accidentally revealed what goes through his head when watching an MMA match.

As the Assembly debated the merits of legalizing the sport in New York, O’Donnell claimed the matches amount to nothing more than ‘gay porn.’

“Two half-naked hot men rolling around in a cage trying to dominate each other,” O’Donnell explained. “It’s basically gay porn, only with a different ending.”

A bill that would legalize professional mixed martial arts finally reached the floor of the New York State Assembly on Tuesday — and the sport soon came under attack by legislators.

“I thought I should learn a little bit about (MMA),” said Assemblyman Daniel O’Donnell (D-Manhattan), who is gay. “Well, I should really like it. You have two nearly naked, hot men trying to dominate each other. That’s gay porn with a different ending.”

O’Donnell, the brother of actress Rosie O’Donnell, concluded his remarks by saying that he would “take a cold shower” and hopes the state would remain the only one in the nation where pro MMA would remain banned.

O’Donnell’s colleague, Charles Barron (D-Brooklyn), also went off the rails, comparing MMA to slavery and police brutality.

Another Democrat, Assemblywoman Deborah Glick (D-New York), claims MMA will contribute to the “dumbing down of America.”

In the end, the Assembly voted to legalize MMA in New York by a vote of 113-25.

Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney (R, C-New Hartford) issued a statement saying “today’s vote puts New York up to speed with the rest of the country.

Tenney also pointed out that “the economic potential from the legalization would be felt state-wide.”

How much economic potential?  Independent studies suggest that four major shows and a few minor ones in the first year alone would result in anywhere between $23 and $40 million in economic impact for the state.
