Madison County authorities aren’t sure where Rodney Hill, the subject of a Friday morning manhunt was hiding, but they know where he’s going now.

Hill, 57, will have a psychiatric evaluation at an undisclosed area hospital after a standoff that started Thursday afternoon. Armed with a firearm, he had a dispute with a neighbor, and that led to Hill’s holing up in his house. After the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol SWAT team gassed the house at 399 Davis Crossing Road after midnight, authorities couldn’t find Hill when they went in to arrest him on an attempted aggravated assault charge.

That was when reporter Bert Case, who was stationed outside Hill’s house, got the interview of a lifetime.
“I had no idea it was him. I thought at first it was somebody playing a trick on me,” said Case about his reaction to Hill coming up and introducing himself.

Once the news crew realized the object of Madison County’s nationwide alert was there, a cameraman called 911.

“I realized what I had to do – keep him talking until deputies got to the scene,” Case said, adding that as the interview wore on, “he didn’t make a bit of sense.”
