Conservative Editor Blocked From Facebook, Is This a Trend?

Eric Odom, the Managing Director and Editor at Liberty News Network, has revealed that a post from the Mental Recession led to his being blocked from Facebook for a 24-hour period – the first time he has ever been blocked by the social media giant.

Via Liberty News:

My name is Eric Odom and I’m the Managing Director of To my knowledge I’ve never been “blocked” by Facebook and have never done anything that would coherently warrant such an action. At least, this would be the case in a common sense world. Unfortunately common sense does not exist at Facebook. Either that or a very strong political agenda is driving the Facebook machine.

You see, as of today I am banned from my Facebook account for 24 hours. Why? Because I shared a link via my personal profile that essentially quoted a Huffington Post story. A Huffington Post story that has been shared on Facebook more than 2,300 times. I was banned for sharing a story that adds countering commentary to the Huffington Post story.

Really? I’m blocked out of Facebook? I must have done something terribly wrong! What did I do?

I shared a link to this on my personal Facebook profile. The story brings attention to a Huffington Post story calling for pro-abortion women to refuse to have sex until men agree to go along with their abortion desires. The story is posted on, a site that manages and considers part of our network.

As Odom points out, the post is basically a small excerpt from the Huffington Post story, accompanied by a few sentences of my own commentary.  The post was brief, and highly unoffending.

Here was the commentary preceding the excerpt:

I’m sure the fact that abstaining from sex is exactly the way to prevent any need for an abortion, is completely lost on this woman.

No sex means, no killing babies, means no argument from pro-lifers.  Genius!

And here was the commentary after:

“Do not make him dinner, do not go fetch him a cold beer from the fridge, do not iron that shirt, hell, do not change that diaper”?

For a feminist, she sure is sexist.

Everything else was directly from the Huffington Post article, including an image of other articles of similar interest, which were hilariously ironic considering the topic.

So what is the main difference between the Huffington Post article, shared 2,300+ times, and our post, which elicits a ban?  As near as I can tell, one is from a conservative website, and one is from a liberal website.  One is pro-abortion, while the other one mocks the pro-abortion writer.

Is there something more going on here with Facebook?  We haven’t heard similar stories of censorship from the left side of the aisle.  And yet, there seems to be an emerging trend for conservatives on Facebook.

Fox News reporter Todd Starnes was recently banned from Facebook for what he dubbed as “politically incorrect” commentary on the issue of guns.

Jeff Dunetz, a conservative blogger at the popular site The Lid writes, “I have had 4 of my articles removed as abusive in the past week.”

The wildly popular and hilarious conservative commentator, Steven Crowder, had a video which parodied the star witness in the George Zimmerman removed as a violation of ‘hate speech’ policies.

Amy, whose Twitter profile says “vote conservative”, was recently blocked for having the audacity to suggest prayer in a comment.

There have been other, similar stories as well.

So what is going on here, if not a crackdown on conservative commentary at the leading Social Media website?

If we do not fight and fight hard for our Rights, we will LOSE THEM! If the left kills & condones killing babies….do you think for a min they are going to play fair in this war on Life & Liberty? Christians & Conservatives, you need to fight, not stand by idle and let them trample you until the Gospel & Truth is no longer heard. Christ commanded to go to all Nations and spread the Truth, not hide under a rock for fear of reprisal!

This has happened before and seems to be a trend.

This is not an obstacle, it’s an opportunity.

This is an opportunity for an entrepreneurial person or group to create a conservative, free-speech version of Facebook.

Facebook is a monopoly which everyone seems to have ceded power, influence, and authority.

It’s unlikely that Facebook can be defeated in the world marketplace but it can and should be challenged with a viable alternative.

Anybody think to ask the administrators at Facebook? Anybody actually read the Terms of Service agreement?

‘I’m not a Facebook user and I didn’t even know they had “timeouts” for so-called bad behavior. Seems odd.

Another trend, gun related websites being shut down for Facebook policy violations because they required users to “like” their page in order to enter a contest. But hundreds, if not thousands of other Facebook pages do the very same thing for their contests, and they don’t suffer the same fate. Bias? I don’t think it’s much of a stretch to think so nor very hard to prove….
