Budweiser, in trying to come up with a patriotic theme as the election season approaches, may have developed the most pro-American marketing theme in history.
They’re simply changing their name to ‘America.’
Starting in two weeks and running through November, beer cans and bottles which would normally feature the company’s name will simply say ‘America.’
Via the New York Times:
Budweiser, a beer brand owned by a Belgian company, will soon appear on shelves with a new name: America.
Pointing to a spate of summer events set to bring out feelings of nationalism, Budweiser said Tuesday that it would replace the word “Budweiser” with “America” on its cans, bottles and packaging from May 23 through the general election in November.
It will be “probably the most American summer of our generation,” said Ricardo Marques, a vice president at Budweiser.
Marques issued the following statement:
“We are embarking on what should be the most patriotic summer that this generation has ever seen, with Copa America Centenario being held on U.S. soil for the first time, Team USA competing at the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Budweiser has always strived to embody America in a bottle, and we’re honored to salute this great nation where our beer has been passionately brewed for the past 140 years.”
In addition to the word ‘America’ appearing on every beer can and bottle produced by Budweiser, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that “the packaging also substitutes ‘US’ in the logo’s crest that would usually say ‘AB’ and drops ‘King of Beers’ for ‘E Pluribus Unum.’
The campaign is titled, ‘America is in Your Hands.’
The company has previously dipped their toes in patriotic waters, rolling out limited edition bottles featuring the Statue of Liberty as well as hosting a Made in America concert founded by hip hop artist Jay-Z.
Can you imagine the upcoming Trump rallies featuring a good ol’ six-pack and a group of patriots looking to make America great again? You thought they were lively before …
