Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair ripped into the politically correct culture spread by liberals, saying it has allowed extremism to spread while the West “concedes” too much and is made to “feel guilty” if we respond to the many acts of violence carried out in the name of Islam.
And he apparently made these comments in an interview with the BBC prior to this week’s ISIS attack in Belgium.
In the process, Blair coined a new term – saying “flabby liberalism” in the face of terrorism is not a real solution.
Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair gave an interview to the BBC––apparently before the Brussels terrorist attacks today––in which he criticized “flabby liberalism” in the face of terrorism and extremism.
Blair said that “we shouldn’t let people intimidate us into thinking there are certain values we shouldn’t be standing up for,” arguing that far too often the West is made to “feel guilty” about its values.
He believes the West actually “concedes” way too much, and even though he personally welcomes multiculturalism, “there’s been a long period of time when we’ve allowed the concept of multiculturalism to be abused” (i.e. unfair treatment of women in the Muslim faith).
Blair said it’s that kind of thinking that demands people not criticize Islamic extremism, but at the same time ignore extremism within the faith.
We’ve all heard about the so-called Republican war on women, but go ahead and ask any Democrat to denounce radical Islam in how they treat women – who are not allowed to drive, receive an education, and can be executed at the drop of a hat – and you’ll hear nothing but silence.
That’s flabby liberalism.
“We’re in a situation where we have to fight back,” Blair said.
He added, “We shouldn’t let people intimidate us into thinking there are certain values we shouldn’t be standing up for.”
